What you need
- Marseille soap
- Castile soap
- Black soap
Natural allies of plants, fruits, and vegetables, Marseille soap and black soap are essential items to have in your gardening kit. With their antibacterial and insecticidal properties, they will take care of your organic garden. Being completely natural, Marseille soap and black soap are particularly used in organic farming.
There are various recipes for Marseille soap flakes, black soap, and even Castile soap. Why are these soaps so effective? The soap will suffocate the aphids, which after three days will turn black and no longer harm your beloved garden.
Here are some recipes:
Based on black soap:
The base: Dilute 5 tablespoons of liquid black soap with olive oil in 1 liter of warm water. Once the mixture has cooled, spray it on the leaves and stems, preferably in the morning or at the end of the day. Don’t forget the underside of the leaves. Repeat this process for several days in a row if necessary.
Fungicide treatment with bicarbonate: In 1 liter of warm water, dilute 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate and 1 teaspoon of black soap. Once the mixture has cooled, spray it on the leaves and stems, preferably in the morning or at the end of the day. Don’t forget the underside of the leaves.
Based on Marseille soap:
Dilute 20 grams of Marseille soap flakes in 1 liter of hot water. Once the mixture has cooled, spray it on the leaves and stems, preferably in the morning or at the end of the day. Don’t forget the underside of the leaves. Repeat this process for several days in a row if necessary.
Castile soap based:
Add 1 tablespoon of liquid castile soap to a 750 ml spray bottle filled with warm water. Shake vigorously to mix.
*Optional: You can add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to help the mixture adhere to your plants. Spray this mixture generously on your plants, starting at the base but including the leaves and flowers. Stink bugs hide in crevices and the undersides of leaves, so be careful.
