Why Prepare Your Skin for Colder Weather in the Fall?
As fall arrives, your skin has to adjust to several changes that can affect its comfort.
- Lower temperatures
- Drier air
- Wind
- Indoor heating, which reduces humidity levels
- Frequent changes between warm and cold environments
These changes can leave your skin feeling drier or less comfortable, with a feeling of tightness, especially if your skin is already dry or sensitive.
Before discomfort sets in, it’s a good idea to gradually adjust your routine to help keep your skin soft, hydrated and comfortable.
1. Choose a Gentle Cleanser
Whether you use a bar soap, gel or body wash, choose a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type and its needs.

As part of your routine:
For your face, choose a cleanser suited to your skin’s needs.

KŌSM Tip:
If your skin feels tight after cleansing, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “clean.” This sensation may instead indicate that your cleanser is too drying for your skin.
2. Boost Hydration
As temperatures drop, it can be helpful to pay extra attention to hydration.
As part of your routine:
Choose a cream or lotion suited to your skin’s needs and apply it regularly, as needed, to your face, body and hands.
Discover all our body creams and lotions.

KŌSM Tip:
Apply your moisturizer after showering or cleansing, while your skin is still slightly damp. This can help maintain skin hydration and preserve its comfort.
Hydration vs. Nourishment: What’s the Difference?
Hydrating = helping the skin maintain its water content.
Nourishing = providing oils and other lipids that contribute to the skin’s comfort and suppleness.
Vegetable oils and butters found in some skincare products can therefore help enhance the feeling of comfort, especially when skin becomes drier.

3. Don’t Forget the Areas Most Exposed
Some areas are particularly exposed to outdoor conditions or frequent washing and may need a little extra attention.
Hands
Hands are particularly exposed to cold weather and frequent washing, which can make them more prone to dryness. Discover all our hand creams.
Lips
Wind and dry air can increase the feeling of dryness on the lips. Discover all our lip balms.
Feet
Even though they are less directly exposed to the cold, feet can also become dry, especially around the heels. Fall is a good time to get back into the habit of regularly applying a moisturizing foot care product. Discover all our foot creams.
Body
Legs, arms and elbows can also become drier as temperatures drop.
4. Exfoliate, But in Moderation
Exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells, but more isn’t necessarily better, especially when your skin becomes drier or less comfortable.
Choose gentle exfoliation and adjust how often you exfoliate according to your skin’s needs. If your skin is already irritated or uncomfortable, it’s best to wait before exfoliating. And after every exfoliation, remember to moisturize your skin.
Adjust Your Routine Instead of Changing Everything
There’s no need to replace your entire routine when fall arrives. Instead, start by paying attention to how your skin reacts and adjust certain habits as needed.
| If your skin… | You can… |
| Feels tight after cleansing | Switch to a gentler cleanser |
| Feels drier | Choose a richer moisturizing texture |
| Becomes uncomfortable | Reduce how often you exfoliate |
| Feels dry on the hands | Apply hand cream regularly |
| Is doing well with your current routine | Avoid making unnecessary changes |
Preparing your skin for colder weather doesn’t necessarily mean changing your entire routine. By paying attention to your skin’s needs and gradually adjusting your habits, you can help maintain its comfort as the seasons change.
